A few years ago, I found my passion. I’m a children’s librarian, and while I love helping kids find books, the work didn’t really light a fire in me. That changed when I started learning about early literacy: the stuff kids learn about reading BEFORE they learn how to read. And when I learned that the best way to help kids prepare to read on their own is for parents to snuggle up with them and share books, and that some kids rarely, if ever, get that experience, I got up on my soapbox and have yet to step off.
